Archer Davidson was fishing in Twofold Bay, New South Wales, in 1910. There wasn’t

with him. He was alone. He had a small hand harpoon. There were colourful little fish

around him in the water. Suddenly he saw enormous in the water. He

moved towards it but there was - just more little fish. A few seconds later, everything

seemed to happen at once. A large blue whale, 29.56 metres long was there, right in front of

him. There was to help him and there was to hide. Davidson decided to try to kill

the whale. He didn’t have to help him to fight the whale - only his small harpoon. He

killed the whale. Its tail fins were more than six metres wide! in Twofold Bay talked

about Archer Davidson and his harpoon for many years after that. He was very

important in the history of fishing and the history of New South Wales.
